Investigative Interviewing
The PEACE model of investigative interviewing is aimed at gaining information from a person without interruption and or minimal influence by the interviewer over that person.
The PEACE model was designed by law enforcement in Britain after realisation, that “psychological coercive techniques” often led to false confessions. Australian Law enforcement agencies have adopted the PEACE MODEL of interviewing technique.
One of the most crucial aspects of interviewing techniques is the ability to provide for an open account of information by the interviewee. Investigators when it comes to a formal interview, usually have some idea of the who, what, when where and how. It is important for the investigator to not direct or influence the interviewee through either body language, leading questions or repetitive same topic questioning.
The effectiveness of the PEACE model interview is relevant to how well trained and experienced the investigator is.
The workshop includes the following theory topics:
Body Language and communication
Positional influence
Parity v disparity
Incident & Accident Investigation
Preparation and planning for an interview
Conduct the interview
Evaluate the interview
This workshop has practical components for participants to plan, prepare and interview other participants.
